In Spring 2024, over 95% of German businesses in Sri Lanka reported a favourable business environment, with the percentage of companies experiencing improvement more than doubling since Fall 2023.

The sentiment of the economy has further deteriorated. While companies still predominantly rate their business situation positively, the downward trend persists. The recession last year, ongoing high costs for energy, financing as well as personnel coupled with skills shortages and enormous bureaucratic burdens leave their marks. Uncertainty among businesses is growing.

Our AHK Sri Lanka Business Barometer provides critical data about the current situation of German brands in Sri Lanka. With a participation rate of 50%, the survey ensures that the data collected is highly representative of the companies involved.

This digital brochure is a quick guide for SMEs on implementing Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD) in supply chains. It was made possible with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the European Union.

The purpose of this guide is to provide Sri Lankan businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with a simplified overview on the steps required to export to the European Union (EU) with a special emphasis on the German and Dutch markets. The information provided has been analysed specifically for the exporters of agri-food and spice products once they are beyond the borders of Sri Lanka.

The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka (AHK Sri Lanka) in collaboration with GIZ Sri Lanka, published the ‘European Importers Guide for Sourcing Organic Agricultural Products from Sri Lanka’. This user-friendly brochure on the organic sector of Sri Lanka highlights the strengths and opportunities in the Sri Lankan organic sector, major organic food products in Sri Lanka, organic certification standards, quality schemes, other certifications, export regulations and the infrastructure of supply chains in Sri Lanka. Moreover, the importers guide includes information on the support initiatives offered through the programme and other details of stakeholders in the industry.
