The session opened with an introduction to the objectives of the committee and an outlook on upcoming activities. These include potential initiatives to promote Sri Lankan IT companies in Germany, as well as opportunities to support German companies exploring Sri Lanka’s digital and technology landscape.
A central part of the meeting was an expert presentation by Ms. Maya Karunaratne on developing meaningful ESG strategies in the IT sector. The presentation highlighted that ESG should be understood not merely as a marketing or reporting tool, but as a comprehensive framework for sustainable business development. For ICT companies, ESG considerations are increasingly relevant in areas such as data protection, cybersecurity, responsible AI development, e-waste management, ethical technology use, and digital accessibility.
The discussion also emphasized the growing importance of governance within the technology sector. As international clients place greater emphasis on data security, responsible digital practices, and regulatory compliance, Sri Lankan ICT companies have an opportunity to strengthen their competitiveness by demonstrating robust ESG standards. Participants noted that clear governance structures and compliance with relevant regulations can help build trust with overseas partners and position Sri Lanka as a reliable technology destination.
In addition, members exchanged views on current sector developments. Participants observed that disruptions, including global uncertainty and evolving regulatory requirements, can also create opportunities for ICT companies by increasing demand for digital solutions, cybersecurity services, and technology-driven transformation.
The meeting concluded with an outlook on future committee activities, including potential knowledge-sharing sessions, cross-sector engagement, and initiatives aimed at increasing the visibility of Sri Lanka’s ICT sector among German public and private sector stakeholders. AHK Sri Lanka looks forward to continuing this dialogue with its members and partners and to supporting the growth of meaningful German–Sri Lankan cooperation in digital innovation and technology.
