  • News

The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka (AHK Sri Lanka) successfully hosted its inaugural AHK Sri Lanka Girls’ Day on May 9th, drawing inspiration from the long-established German Girls’ Day.

The initiative aims to introduce young girls to career paths in STEM fields and other professions with low female representation, fostering curiosity, confidence, and aspiration.

In collaboration with esteemed companies Aitken Spence Travels, Allianz Lanka, and Häfele India, AHK Sri Lanka curated three unique and engaging programs for students from Steiner College:

  • At Allianz Lanka, the girls engaged in an inspiring session with a successful female professional and participated in a coaching workshop focused on achieving academic excellence.
  • Aitken Spence Travels offered insights into the company’s Operations and Sustainability Team, where the students actively took part in the Plant Dansala initiative.
  • Häfele India welcomed the students to its design center, showcasing advanced hardware and interior solutions, and providing a closer look at management roles and career pathways.

AHK Sri Lanka extends sincere gratitude to all partner companies for their dedication and enthusiasm, and to Steiner College for embracing this pioneering initiative.

Following the success of the inaugural edition, AHK Sri Lanka looks forward to organizing a second edition of Girls’ Day in 2026. Together with its partners, the organization remains committed to empowering more young Sri Lankan girls to explore diverse and promising professional futures.
