Overview of the German Government's Export Promotion Programs

Germany supports the internationalisation of its industries through a range of targeted export promotion programmes implemented by the Federal Government. These initiatives assist German companies particularly SMEs in entering and expanding within foreign markets by providing market intelligence, networking opportunities, business matchmaking, and project based cooperation. In Sri Lanka, AHK Sri Lanka facilitates the implementation of selected programmes, fostering sustainable bilateral trade and sector specific partnerships.

Environmental Protection Export Initiative

The ‘Export Initiative Environmental Protection’ has funded more than 170 projects in almost 100 countries. Together with its partner organisations, EXI has thus been able to achieve international recognition for environmental protection ‘Made in Germany’. 

 

 

Energy Export Initiative 

The services of the German Energy Solutions Initiative are mainly intended for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) offering energy solutions in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, smart grids and storage technologies. 

 

 

Export promotion program of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Rural Affairs (BMLEH)

In order to support the German agricultural and food industry, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), in their efforts to open up new foreign markets and maintain existing ones, the BMLEH has launched a support programme. The program is continuously being developed and adapted to current requirements.

 

 

Market Development Program 

The Market Development Programme (MEP) supports small and medium-sized enterprises in their entry into foreign markets. The self-employed and subject-related liberal professions as well as business-related service providers can also participate in the measures.

 

 

AHK Sri Lanka Projects

  • Export Initiative Environmental Protection (EXI) 2025

 

The Board of Investment (BOI) operates Export Processing Zones (EPZs) across Sri Lanka, providing companies with dedicated infrastructure and business incentives. To address sewage sludge management challenges in these zones, AHK Sri Lanka is partnering with the German engineering firm engineering4environment GmbH to develop a sustainable management concept.

 

 

 

  • MEP 2025: Business Initiation for German Companies in the Field of Planning/Consulting/Tourism Services

 

On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), AHK Sri Lanka organised a business development mission to Sri Lanka under the Market Development Programme for SMEs. A German delegation visited the country to explore cooperation opportunities in planning, consulting, and tourism services.
