The fireside discussion focused on the Top 5 Legal Topics of 2025, providing participants with a timely overview of key legal and tax developments relevant to the business community. The exchange benefited from the expertise of Dushyantha Perera, Partner and Head of Corporate and Commercial Law at Sudath Perera Associates, and Shiluka Goonewardene, Principal at KPMG, who shared practical insights and perspectives grounded in current regulatory and market realities.
Following the discussion, the session reflected on the achievements of AHK Sri Lanka’s Sector Committees in 2025. Over the course of the year, more than 24 Sector Committee meetings were conducted across seven key sectors, creating structured platforms for dialogue between members and public-sector counterparts. These engagements enabled direct interaction with key authorities and agencies, including Sri Lanka Customs, the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), the Board of Investment (BOI), and the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA), ensuring that member concerns, operational challenges, and constructive proposals were communicated at the appropriate decision-making level.
In addition to Committee meetings, AHK Sri Lanka facilitated a series of awareness-raising and knowledge-sharing sessions throughout the year. These addressed topics such as MICE tourism, Sri Lanka Customs procedures, and environmental sustainability in the Logistics and Maritime sector, further strengthening sector-specific understanding and collaboration among members.
Looking ahead to 2026, AHK Sri Lanka plans to further develop the Sector Committee framework by expanding into the IT sector, enhancing peer-to-peer exchange among members, intensifying knowledge-sharing initiatives, and deepening engagement in corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. Central to these efforts remains AHK Sri Lanka’s commitment to advocating for greater ease of doing business and supporting meaningful reform initiatives.
